Description: Below me are nearly vertical massive U-shaped walls carved by ancient glaciers, surounded by rugged mountains, Milford Sound in distance. The view from Gertrude Saddle offers one of New Zealand’s best sceneries. Through summer is the saddle adorned by alpine platns and if you are patient enough you can spot a rock wren (Xenicus gilviventris) hopping on the rocks.
