Aurora Australis from Five Fingers Peninsula, Fiordland

Description: I was volunteering on Five Fingers Peninsula of Resolution Island. One night I saw the Aurora Australis, with beams of light shining over the sky. In the middle of the photo is Canopus - the brightest star in the southern constellation of Carina, and the second brightest star in the night-time sky, after Sirius. On the top left corner is the Large Magellanic Cloud (nearly 200,000 light-years from Earth), a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way. Unfortunately I did not have a tripod, I managed to fix the camera temporarily on the roof, however due to the inappropriate angle I caught only the end of the light display.
